nubbsgalore:

starting on september 25, hindus will observe ten days of ceremonies, rituals, fasts and feasts in honor of the supreme mother goddess, durga, and her defeat of the demon mahishasura. hinduism, it should be noted, is the only religion in the world which has emphasised to such an extent the motherhood of god.

the first nine days of festivities, known as navarātrī (literally meaning nine nights), see thousands of youth participate in the garba dance to honour durga. (garba is itself a word that derives from womb, or life, and the dance is meant to honor the fact that all humans have the divine energy within them.)

girls and women dress in the traditional  garga choli, a three piece dress comprised of a colourful blouse, a long, embroidered skirt, and a shall known as a dupatta. photos are by amit dave and sam panthaky from ahmedabad, in the northern indian state of gujarat, where the garba dance originated.

confessions-of-an-almost-actress
I am happy when I eat fresh fruit, when I burst out laughing, when I discover a new song, when I finish a good book, when I wake up and feel relaxed. I’m glad to have friends, family, a home, food when I’m hungry, hot water when I shower. I love being able to live and see the seasons change, to have gifts at Christmas and at my birthday, to travel sometimes, to have a good education and a great access to culture. I’m flattered when people compliment me, when peole smile at me, when people are polite to me. There are so many things that make life so simple and easy and I will always think about them more than all the bad things that will happen to me. I do not have time to be sad every day and ungrateful; I have every reason in the world to be happy.

So this little kid dressed in a Bumblebee costume came across my dads camaro which is yellow with black stripes and the little kid walked up to it saying “You’re not the real Bumblebee!” And then he slapped the front of the car and right as he did, the car started up because my dad was watching through our security cameras and the camaro can be started remotely. This kid nearly fell as he ran away yelling and it’s great knowing that he’ll probably always remember the day he met Bumblebee.
